We know a lot of our Fylde based clients have
to make frequent visits to the Blackpool Victoria,
Clifton and Fleetwood hospitals and we understand that
parking can often cause unnecessary stress. This article
is intended to help alleviate some of that stress by
highlighting the concessions that are available.
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is aware of the stress parking can cause, so have made various concessions at the discretion of the ward manager.
The following situations may receive free parking:
- Patients undergoing regular haematology or oncology
treatment.
- A relative or carer of a patient who has
been in hospital for two weeks (this is limited to one
person).
- A relative or carer of a patient who is at
the end of their life.
Other concessions include the parents, guardians or carers of a child who is an inpatient. They are able to receive subsidised parking at £3 a day for the first two weeks (a saving of 50%) and then free thereafter.
To claim free or concessionary parking, speak to the ward manager or nurse in charge for an authorised form which you will have to present to the car parking office to obtain your parking permit.
There are also short stay and drop spaces available
which offer free parking for between 15 minutes and 1
hour.
It is worth noting as well, that any patient may be able to reclaim their travel expenses through the NHS Healthcare Travel Cost Scheme. More information can be found by visiting the ambulance liaison desk at the Out Patients, Women’s and Childcare’s Unit or the Macmillan Group.
We hope this article has been helpful, remember to check the hospitals' own website for more information.
